Troubleshooting 101 - Basic Resolution Steps

If you’re experiencing issues with Walkabout (such as trouble launching the game or receiving updates), follow the steps below.

 

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, visit the Platforms section of our Game Help Center for platform-specific support. If you still need help, please submit a support ticket.


1. Restart Your Headset

Restarting often resolves common issues.

Soft Restart

  • Hold the power button for a few seconds.

  • Select Restart from the on-screen menu.

Hard Restart

  • Hold the power button for 10–15 seconds.

  • Wait 30 seconds.

  • Turn the device back on.


2. Manually Update Walkabout

On Quest:

  • Select the three dots on the app tile.

  • Choose Update (if available).

  • Check the Updates tab or notifications for pending updates.

Tip: Restarting your headset may trigger a pending update to appear.


3. Update Your Headset OS

  • Open SettingsSystemSoftware Update.

  • Install any available updates.

Headsets typically update automatically, but a manual update may be required.


4. Reinstall the Walkabout App

If problems persist, uninstall and reinstall the app.

Important:
Walkabout uses external Save Sync for player data. Although you may see a warning about data loss, uninstalling/reinstalling will not delete your progress.


5. Check Your Wi-Fi Connection

A stable internet connection is required for updates and online features.

  • Confirm your headset is connected to Wi-Fi.

  • Restart your router if needed.

  • Try toggling Airplane Mode ON, then OFF to reset the connection.


PCVR Troubleshooting

If you're playing on PCVR, also check the following:

Basic PC Checks

  • Restart your computer.

  • Install system updates.

  • Update your GPU drivers.

  • Validate DLC files in SteamVR (if applicable).


Performance & Visual Settings (SteamVR)

If you're experiencing performance issues:

  • Turn Supersampling OFF.

  • Lower the Custom Resolution Multiplier.

  • Confirm your PC is using the correct GPU.

  • Make sure the VR view window is the primary window on your monitor.


PCVR Launch Methods

We do not officially support Virtual Desktop for streaming. Performance or gameplay issues may occur when using this app.

Recommended methods:

  • Steam Link

  • Cable Link

  • Air Link

If you’re having launch issues:

  • Try launching Walkabout first, then SteamVR.


If issues continue after completing these steps, please contact support with details about your platform and setup.
